Kansas Medicaid Program

Medical Assistance is a publicly funded health care program implemented for very low-income individuals, children who need financial support, parents with children, seniors, people with disabilities and pregnant women. Medical Assistance is paid by federal and state dollars. Certain criteria of income and other requirements are to be fulfilled, in order to be eligible to claim Medicaid. Medicaid is one of the largest health care providers in Kansas. The Kansas Medicaid Program is administered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Kansas Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

CHIP assists low-income children residing in families with incomes that is above Medicaid limits. CHIP is not open-ended and yearly allotments are awarded to states. Kansas provides fordable health insurance coverage to children below 19 years who do not qualify for Medicaid or their family incomes less than 232% of the federal poverty level, and those who are not qualified for state employee health insurance and any private health plans.

KanCare

Through the KanCare program, Kansas administers Medicaid. Kansas collaborated with 3 health plans (Amerigroup of Kansas, Inc., United, Sunflower) or managed care organizations so as to provide health care for almost everyone under Medicaid beneficiaries. Within the state, KanCare is administered by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Kansas Vital Records and Health Statistics

The Bureau of Health Statistics oversees and manages the collection, and distribution of public health and vital statistics data. The department works concurrently with other state and local agencies to provide technical assistance to users to procure the vital records, sort and solve problems and upgrade to meet the emerging health trends.


Under the state/federal law, vital records are confidential records maintained by the bureau of health statistics. The bureau furnishes the certificates to the person named on the certificate, mother, father, son, daughter, sister, brother or legal representative of the person.
